It was during Easter Week, half a year ago, that I attended the Lighthouse
opening on Apteegi street. At that time, I registered my delight that
such a ministry was critcal and strategic. The prospects looked great but the challenge of getting it underway and seeing it sustained would be enormous. This September I returned and was even more delighted to see what was going on. The atmosphere there with the twenty children and several staff people was encouraging. The care was incarnational, and the need staggering. And it is going on. In the name of Jesus.
I went there in September with a mission. In our Bible School in June, I was the missions speaker for the children. During one of my sessions, when I shared a video and some stories about Estonia, little Nathan raised his hand and said he wanted to help the children of Estonia. Little did I know that a week prior to my going to Estonia, Nathan had collected an offering of $250 for the children. There was no doubt in my mind that the Lighthouse would receive this offering and the story behind it. I trust there are more Nathans out there and more support for this significant ministry.
I left that Lighthouse meeting on Apteegi that evening challenged: first, recognizing the difficulty of doing such a work; second, realizing that such a work is sacrificial and self-giving; third, only as we enter into the suffering and pain can change ever happen. They are doing that at the Lighthouse... and they deserve our support...
I got the feeling that the Lighthouse ministry is at the strategic point; that is, for any continuation on a sustained basis, they will need our continued prayers and financial assistance. And once you see those kids; needing a warm meal, a hug, and the Word; a place to meet where they are greeted with warmth and care--you get the picture. Well, the Lighthouse casts a beam of light in our direction. If you see it, follow it to Apteegi and you will see ministry in the name of Christ that is affecting change.
